Dirty or Poor Quality Prints

Having problems with consistent output such as splotchy prints, unintentional grayscale or white lines?  Here are a few common issues and solutions.

Output is single-sided

  • Make sure that you have installed the Lower Tray Assembly and that the Duplex Unit is inserted in the upper slot of the printer.
  • Make sure that you have loaded the paper tray with paper and installed it in the middle or lower slot of the printer.
  • Ensure the printer driver is configured to recognize the Lower Tray Assembly and Duplex Unit.
  • Ensure that you have made the selection for duplex printing, using one of the folowing methods:

    • Front Panel: Under Duplex in the Printer Defaults menu.
    • Print screen: Using a supported driver, select Print on Both Sides or 2-Sided Printing.

Network and Connection Problems

What is a Printer Driver?

A driver performs three basic functions:

  • The driver translates the computer language of a document into a language the printer can understand.
  • As a link between the computer and the printer, the driver directs the computer where to send the printer job.
  • The driver also provides access to printer specific features such as extra trays, duplexing options, and print quality controls.

The device will not power ON

  • Make sure the power cord is firmly connected into a power outlet and the machine.
  • Connect another appliance to the power outlet to verify voltage.
  • 5x11" original was not enlarged onto an 11x17" page
  • Ensure that the sensor on top of the Document Feeder tray is not covered.
  • 11x17" paper can only be loaded into trays 1 and 2 - short edge feed.
  • Select a percentage for enlargement or select the required paper tray and auto resize.

 Hardware Problems

Media  Jams

  • Use Xerox media for best results.
  • Ensure that you use a high-quality laser paper.
  • Make sure that the Media Thickness Switch is set correctly for the media installed in the Multi-Purpose Tray.
  • For frequent paper jams, set the Media Thickness Switch to a thicker setting.
  • For media that is heavier than 90 g/m 2 (24 lb.), use the Multi-Purpose Tray rather than a media tray.
  • Ensure that the media is installed under the hooks at the front of the media tray.
  • Fan the paper or transparencies before installing them in their respective trays so they do not stick together.
  • Do not overfill the media tray, as indicated by the red line on the right side of the tray.
  • Clean the paper-feed rollers and paper-pick rollers.
  • Replace the Fuser Roll.

Do not use any media designed for inkjet printers, especially inkjet coated paper and inkjet transparencies:

  • Inkjet media are coated with a substance that may damage the Fuser.
  • Use only Xerox transparencies. Xerox does not guarantee the results of non-Xerox transparencies in Xerox printers.
